IO's James Bond Game Aims To Stand Next To The Movies, Hitman Series Goes On Hiatus

New details have come to light about Hitman developer IO’s new James Bond game, which tells an original story about the superspy’s origins. IO studio boss Christian Elverdam told Eurogamer that the aim is to “reinvent” the James Bond video game series with the title. For what it’s worth, the next James Bond films wants to be a reinvention of the character with a new actor.

IO’s other top boss, Hakan Abrak, said the James Bond game aims to be a product that can “stand next to the TV and the movies and whatnot.” The line about TV is curious because no James Bond TV series have been announced beyond the upcoming reality competition show.

Abrak went on to say that the pitch to James Bond rights-owners MGM and Eon was not for a simple tie-in that would make money based on the name alone.

“It’s not just capitalizing on IP and doing one game and trying to earn something–it’s not like that. When we commit to something we commit with everything: with community and how we grow this love for the game we’re doing, and for the IP that we also promised we will treat like our own. And we’ll create a community that the gamers can call their own,” Abrak said.

“This can be something where the gamers say, ‘Well it’s not just a gamification of a video [and] did they convey Daniel Craig well or not? I don’t know, let me look at the pixels.’ It’s an origin story. It’s the beginning of something new and it’s the beginning, hopefully, of something that the gamers can call their own,” the executive added.

This tallies with what MGM’s Robert Marick said in 2021 about the company’s desire to make a truly great James Bond game as opposed to focusing only on leveraging the Bond IP to make money.

“When you look at James Bond, for instance, the opportunity to be able to tell an origin story and express that in terms of the [quality] that fans expect, we needed a console partner to be able to help tell that story,” he said at the time. “We’re not here for a quick buck, we’re here for what extends the brand.”

There is no word yet on when IO’s James Bond game will be released, and it’s one of multiple titles in the works at the studio, which is also making an online fantasy game. As for James Bond games you can play right now, the iconic GoldenEye 007 is available now on Xbox Game Pass and Switch.

As for IO’s best-known series, the Hitman franchise is now on hiatus.

“Right now a major, major new Hitman game: that’s a little bit on hiatus,” Elverdam told Eurogamer. “We’re building another agent fantasy that’s also taking up a lot of our time.

Constance Is A Colorful Combo Of Hollow Knight And Splatoon, And I Dig It

Save for that blissful half-hour of Silksong that I played back in E3 2019, Constance is, so far, the best Hollow Knight-like game I’ve ever played. It’s not exactly the same–Constance takes a page out of Splatoon’s book and features a main character that can wield dangerous purple paint and submerge into puddles in order to slink past enemies or obstacles or ascend up walls–but I couldn’t help but be reminded of my time spend in Hallownest. My time with the game was unfortunately quite short–I played a 20-minute Gamescom demo–but I adored what I saw of its quirky world and enjoyed how much the various designs of the robotic enemies and assortment of paint-based abilities shook up each combat encounter. Just as Hollow Knight’s gameplay emulates the acrobatic dance and frenzied movements of insects, combat in Constance feels like the frenetic flourishes and flicks of a paintbrush as an artist enters the flow state.

Constance’s story seems quite interesting but I’m…

CoD- Warzone May 26 Patch Notes Detail Anti-Cheat Update And Stim Changes

Call of Duty Season 3 Reloaded went live for Warzone on May 25, bringing major changes to the battle royale with a fast travel system and lower player count, but a smaller update has followed on May 26 to include an update to the Ricochet anti-cheat and some bug fixes.

Warzone’s anti-cheat should hopefully continue to combat all the hackers, as the patch notes vaguely mention an update has been made to the Ricochet PC kernel-level driver detection systems and server-side security.

Halo Wars 2 Review

Halo Wars 2 lies somewhere in between an RTS game for Halo fans and a Halo game for RTS fans. It adapts Halo’s FPS roots well, taking the series’ classic missions and reformatting them in ways that make sense for a strategy game without sacrificing accessibility. But ultimately, this is a very light RTS experience geared toward Halo veterans, not a robust strategy game, and it runs out of steam quickly.

Halo Wars 2 takes place nearly three decades after the first Halo Wars and chronologically after Halo 5. The crew of the Spirit of Fire emerges from cryosleep and is now taking on a rogue Brute faction called the Banished, rather than the Covenant. At the head is Atriox, a Brute known for his extensive cruelty, and you and your army are tasked with finding him and shutting him down. It’s an interesting story as a Halo fan in that it explores other aspects of the universe, but it doesn’t offer compelling revelations or necessary information for the main…

Inside Out 2 Scores Second Biggest Animated Box Office Opening Ever

Pixar’s latest film, Inside Out 2, has been a box office hit, raking in a total of $155 million domestically and $295 million globally on its opening weekend. That gives it the biggest opening of 2024 so far, topping both Dune: Part Two’s $182.5 million opening and Godzilla x Kong’s $194 million opening.

Inside Out 2 had the second-most successful opening weekend ever for an animated film, coming in just under Disney’s Incredibles 2, which earned $182.6 million domestically when it first opened in 2018. Inside Out 2’s final domestic gross is expected to exceed half a $500 million, according to Deadline. EnTelligence, a company that “provides proprietary impression analysis” for motion picture groups and streaming services, reports that 12 million tickets have been sold. The last film to sell over 10 million tickets during its opening weekend was last summer’s Barbie, which sold 13 million tickets during its debut. The film has also attracted a more diverse audience t…
